French Extension
Course Description:
The Extension Course builds upon the body of knowledge and skills acquired in the French Continuers course. It provides students with opportunities to develop a greater competence and fluency in the language, and to explore contemporary issues in French.
The French Extension course provides opportunities for students to:
• enhance their enjoyment of learning French by broadening and deepening their language experience
• gain insight into the culture of French-speaking communities and the communities' perspectives on contemporary issues
• gain an appreciation of the French language through the study of contemporary texts
• use French as an adjunct to their career path.

The outsider versus social order
• breaking down versus creating barriers
• prejudice
• asylum seekers
• peer group pressure.
The power of attachment
• attachment to people, places, possessions, ideas
• positive and negative effects of attachment
• tradition versus progress
• coping with change.
Our relationship with the environment
• the impact of the environment on human behaviour
• spiritual connection to the land
• working with or against nature

The listening skills are assessed in school, whilst all other skills are assessed both in school and in the HSC examination.
There are no take home assessment tasks for French Extension.
Who should study this course:
Anyone who likes to present and discuss opinions, ideas and points of view in French would enjoy this course. French Extension touches on international current affairs, the individual and contemporary society and asks students to critically consider these and develop an opinion. The topics resonate in a lot of other subjects, including English, Science, Society and Culture and Modern History, and add an extra facet of understanding of our own language and culture.
